Audio codecs and their perceptual quality evaluation
Hudec, Andrej ; Schimmel, Jiří (referee) ; Rajmic, Pavel (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with audio codecs and tests to evaluate their listening quality. The thesis offers a description of the properties of human hearing, a brief introduction to the issues of audio coding, types of audio data compression and listening tests. The bachelor thesis also contains a theoretical description of the coding processes of selected audio codecs, evaluation of measuring their computational complexity and evaluation of listening quality of each of them using listening tests. HTML, CSS, Javascript and Python programming languages were used to implement the listening test environment. The audio files examined in the listening tests were obtained using the FFmpeg library.
Comparison of voice and audio codecs
Lúdik, Michal ; Sysel, Petr (referee) ; Míča, Ivan (advisor)
This thesis deals with description of human hearing, audio and speech codecs, description of objective measure of quality and practical comparison of codecs. Chapter about audio codecs consists of description of lossless codec FLAC and lossy codecs MP3 and Ogg Vorbis. In chapter about speech codecs is description of linear predictive coding and G.729 and OPUS codecs. Evaluation of quality consists of description of segmental signal-to- noise ratio and perceptual evaluation of quality – WSS and PESQ. Last chapter deals with description od practical part of this thesis, that is comparison of memory and time consumption of audio codecs and perceptual evaluation of speech codecs quality.
Analysis of progressive hardware for real-time media processing
Režný, Jan ; Vrba, Kamil (referee) ; Sysel, Petr (advisor)
Diploma thesis focuses on the selection of suitable HW solution for parallell processing of multiple audio sources. Compares several different platforms based on architectures ARM, x86 and Epiphany, compares their performance in serial and parallel data processing, their energy consumption and price.
Licensed Music Recordings on Nationalized Czechoslovak Market
Ferenc, Petr ; Marková, Alena (advisor) ; Štemberk, Jan (referee)
Diploma thesis Licensed Music Recordings on Nationalized Czechoslovak Market deals with a segment of music industry executed by Supraphon and Opus labels. Between 1946-1989, most foreign recordings on the nationalized music market were licensed, then multiplied and offered to listeners via the state distribution network, stores and also as Grammophone Club editions subscription. Up to now, the research only discussed licensed recordings in the context of long play records and a struggle for emancipation of rock music in socialist Czechoslovakia. This diploma thesis adds the area of classical and contemporary music and other not yet discussed genres and sound media. Collected data from approximately 700 records and cassettes are interpreted by the means of quantitative research - the provenience of licences is investigated and compared as well as the development of genre range in time, sound media preferences and the number of licensed releases published by Supraphon and Opus. Both the chapter which covers historical and aesthetic questions of licensing and the chapter which explains the technical vocabulary provide necessary context to the research. This thesis aims to help the research of licensed recordings on Czechoslovak market reach higher integrity and compactness based rather on data than...
